Housing Choice provides rental assistance to low-income families in the private rental market. AHA forms a partnership with families and landlords to provide housing opportunities throughout metro Atlanta. Through Housing Choice, thousands of families have secured quality housing in the neighborhoods of their choice.

Waiting list

Generally, a family interested in participating in Housing Choice must apply to AHA when the waiting list is open and applications are being accepted. AHA must give public notice of when the waiting list will open and where applications will be taken. AHA advertises the notice in local newspapers, radio spots, at social service agencies, on this Web page, and in other locations available to applicants.

AHA's Housing Choice waiting list is presently closed.

The Housing Choice Voucher Program Waiting List Opening (HCVP) closed on January 13, 2015. AHA is not accepting any additional pre-applications.

What happens next?

If you submitted a pre-application, please keep a record of your Application ID, User Name, and Password for future use. A computerized, random selection process will take place within approximately two weeks of the waiting list closing date to determine which registrants will be selected for the official waiting list.

How will I know if I am selected for the waiting list?

There are only three ways for you to determine your status:

  1. Email - All registrants received an email notifying them of whether or not they were selected for the waiting list.
  2. Mail - All applicants placed on the waiting list received a letter by U.S. postal mail to the address used on the pre-application.
  3. Hotline - You may call the AHA Waiting List Hotline at 1 (800) 603-9291 with your Application ID and Date of Birth to check your status.

When will I receive a voucher?

As vouchers become available, you will be given an appointment to determine your eligibility for the Housing Choice Voucher Program. If you are determined to be eligible, AHA will issue a voucher.

AHA will notify you in writing if you have been selected for eligibility. Therefore, it is important that you notify AHA in writing if your contact information changes. No further information about the waiting list is available at this time. Please continue to visit the Atlanta Housing Authority's website for information on other affordable housing opportunities.
