Seasoned public sector legal leader brings more than two decades of experience to the agency
ATLANTA – Atlanta Housing announced the appointment of Sharese M. Reyes as General Counsel. Reyes has more than 20 years of legal leadership experience, primarily in the public sector, and now serves as the agency’s chief legal officer, advising executive leadership and supporting the delivery of Atlanta Housing’s mission.
Reyes is a seasoned legal professional with deep expertise in complex litigation, employment and labor law, federal program compliance, investigations, reasonable accommodations, and advising senior government officials. Throughout her career, she has led high-performing legal teams, built strategic litigation functions, and supported organizations navigating complex regulatory and policy environments.
“Sharese brings exceptional judgment, deep public sector experience, and a steady hand to Atlanta Housing,” said President and CEO Terri M. Lee. “Her background advising senior leaders at the federal level and her command of complex legal issues will be invaluable as we continue to advance bold housing strategies while maintaining strong governance and accountability.”
Most recently, Reyes served as associate general counsel at the U.S. Social Security Administration, where she advised the commissioner and senior executives on high-stakes legal matters of national importance. In that role, she led teams responsible for preparing senior officials for congressional testimony, advising on privilege and discovery issues, managing class action litigation, and supporting performance management for Senior Executive Service employees, administrative law judges, and other senior staff. Prior to her appointment as General Counsel, she served one full term on the Atlanta Citizen Review Board.
Earlier in her career, Reyes was a litigator at Hogan & Hartson LLP (now Hogan Lovells) in Washington, D.C., where she represented Fortune 500 companies and other clients in matters involving the Fair Housing Act, securities law, Department of Justice investigations, and other complex federal litigation.
Reyes earned her Juris Doctor, with honors, from The George Washington University School of Law and holds a Bachelor of Arts in communications and sociology from The University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill.
